On the authority of Abū Hurayrah (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu), from the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ, who said:

Mūsā (ʿalayhi al-salām) asked his Lord about six characteristics, which he thought were solely his, and he disliked the seventh.

1.He asked: “O my Lord, which of Your servants is the most pious?”

Allāh answered: The one who remembers Allāh and does not forget.

2.He asked: “Which of Your servants is the most guided?”

Allāh answered: The one who follows the guidance.

3.He asked: “Which of Your servants is the best in judgement?”

Allāh answered: The one who judges for people as he would judge for himself.

4.He asked: “Which of Your servants is the most knowledgeable?”

Allāh answered: The one who is never satisfied, who constantly thirsts for knowledge, and who adds the knowledge of others to his own.

5.He asked: “Which of Your servants is the most honourable?”

Allāh answered: The one who has the ability to forgive, and forgives.

6.He asked: “Which of Your servants is the most content?”

Allāh answered: The one who is pleased with what he is given.

7.He asked: “Which of Your servants is the neediest?”

Allāh answered: The one who uses what he has, yet always feels in need of more.

Then the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said:

“True satisfaction is not in outward possessions. Indeed, real satisfaction is the satisfaction of the soul. If Allāh intends good for His servant, He places satisfaction in his soul and taqwā (piety) in his heart. And if Allāh intends harm for a servant, He places poverty before him wherever he turns.”
