Summary

A reflective reminder drawn from a prophetic ḥadīth on deception, misplaced trust, and the dangers of unqualified voices shaping public affairs.

From the signs of Qiyāmah, may Allah not make us among those who embody them.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

“There will come years of deception, in which the liar will be believed, the truthful will be called a liar, the honest will be deemed a traitor, the traitor will be entrusted, and the Ruwaybiḍah will speak and give counsel.”

He ﷺ was asked, “Who are the Ruwaybiḍah?”
He replied:

“The insignificant, unqualified person who speaks about the affairs of the general public.”

Musnad Aḥmad

This ḥadīth serves as a sobering mirror for every age, especially our own. When truth is distorted, falsehood amplified, and voices without knowledge are elevated, confusion becomes the norm, and wisdom is sidelined. The warning is not merely about who speaks, but about what happens when credibility is severed from character and knowledge.

It calls us to pause before trusting, verify before sharing, and seek guidance from those rooted in sincerity, integrity, and sound scholarship. In times of moral inversion, holding firmly to truth becomes an act of worship.

May Allah grant us discernment, protect us from being misled or misleading, and allow us to remain steadfast upon truth when deception is made attractive.
